Pressure redistributing mattresses are the perfect solution for patients with bed sores or ulcers. Both are common for care home residents who stay in the same position for long periods of time and have limited mobility. This means that these mattresses are essential for some patients.
Designed to relieve as much pressure from the user’s body as possible, pressure redistributing mattresses are excellent at providing maximum comfort. Not only are they great for helping those suffering from sores or ulcers, but they can also help prevent sores or ulcers from forming as well!
As discussed in our How A Pressure Mattress Works Article, there are 3 different types of pressure redistributing mattress:
Static: These mattresses are often designed to prevent sore and ulcer formation, depending on the sort of foam that’s used.
Alternating: This type of mattress is built around alternating air-filled cells which work in small groups to alter pressure distribution. These are also sometimes known as “dynamic mattresses”, and tend to focus on prevention and healing.
Hybrid: Another mattress focusing primarily on prevention and healing, these are made from a combination of air and foam.
Of course, which type of mattress you chose will depend on the environment and the patient. You can find out more about the Types of Pressure Redistributing Mattresses Here.
Here at Renray, we supply a static Foam Mattress with a maximum user weight of 320 kg (50 stone). Therefore, it is also perfect for all bariatric patients. It is recommended that the mattress is used with the Prestige Low Bariatric Bed (PTGBAR). With this combination, patients and/or carers can easily adjust the position of the bed and mattress for maximum comfort!
