Care Home Essentials for your Bedside Unit

As you get older, it’s important to keep care home essentials somewhere close by. The location that you choose, not only needs to be familiar and safe but also private and especially secure. This is why we recommend Bedside Units as a location to store important items. This is because they meet all of the above requirements and, with Renray Healthcare, you get a wide variety of products and designs to choose from!

Although, despite there being several Benefits to Bedroom Storage, knowing what your essential items are isn’t always straightforward. Whilst they of course vary from person to person, here are the four care home essentials that we recommend to get you started.

1. Medicine

For many care home residents, your medicine is just as vital to your health and wellbeing as the Right Exercises and a Healthy, Balanced Diet. So, keeping these somewhere that’s close by is strongly advised and, if you take anything as soon as you wake up or just before bed, then there’s no better place than a bedside unit! Be sure to confirm with your doctor or nurse what medicines you can and can’t keep yourselves.

Alternatively, Renray offers lockable medicine bedroom storage in our Georgia Double Wardrobe, which you View Here.

2. Hygiene Products

This is especially recommended if you’re just moving into a care home as, despite some care homes including them in the price, hygiene products that are available in these facilities can be pricey. Even so, having items such as shampoo, soap, deodorant and make-up nearby can add a sense of familiarity to your care home room, and means you’re less likely to misplace small toiletries.

3. Electronic Devices (or a hobby)

Having an electronic device either on top of or stored within your bedside unit can help residents stay connected with friends and family as well as the outside world. Therefore, we’d recommend some of the following:

  • Smartphone or tablet

  • Laptop

  • DVD Player

  • Headphones

  • E-Reader

  • MP3 Player

  • Radio

On the other hand, if electronics aren’t your thing, then a care home essential to have close is a small hobby. Things like books, puzzles, or playing cards can all make excellent bedside companions.

4. A Photo Album

Finally, given that so much personal value is attached to such items, we recommend keeping things like photo albums safe and close by. A photo album or other personal heirlooms and ornaments can greatly increase the comfort and familiarity you feel in your care home bedroom. That’s why we’d advise it such an item should be included in your bedside unit essentials!
